Scouts Save Energy with EON

26 February 2014

Working towards their Global Conservation Badge, 1st Nanpantan Scouts learnt that they can reuse old fabric materials in order to create draught excluders in order to help save energy.  Craft experts from E.ON were on hand to help them design and make their excluders. Using sewing machines and a needle and thread, Scouts managed to come up with a range of different designs before filling the draught excluders with stuffing from an old quilt. Some Scouts managed to create more than one. Alec, aged 10, said “It was great fun using the sewing machines. I had never used one before and love the different stitching patterns they can create”.

Simon Parr, Group Scout Leader of 1st Nanpantan Scouts said “It is great that we can work in partnership with E.ON. Our Scouts learnt about reducing our carbon footprint by this simple method of creating draught excluders. Not only have they found out how they can care for the environment, they have learnt a great practical skill.”
